75 years ago: “Tomorrow is Armistice day – the day of which the big guns, and small ceased firing in the World War. The silence which followed must have been tremendously awesome after years of the terrible roar of battle. Many thousands of men – war casualties – could not ‘hear’ the silence and it is in honor of those war dead that the 30 seconds of absolute quiet is observed at 11 o’clock every Armistice day.”
50 years ago: “Fort Lewis A&M College will remain under the jurisdiction of the State Board of Agriculture under a decision by the Committee of Education Beyond the High School. The committee had voted earlier to recommend to the next legislature that the operation of the college be transferred to the State Board of Trustees of State College.”
25 years ago: “U.S. Rep. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, a Democrat from Ignacio, skated to a landslide re-election victory, the largest of the night for any Colorado congressman. Campbell was one of Colorado’s three freshmen congressman and three U.S. House veterans who won easily and credited their wins to voters’ approval of their performance in office.”
