Aztec Ruins National Monument, 84 County Road 2900 in Aztec, will host its annual Evening of Lights from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 19.

People may arrive by 4:45 p.m. to see the winter solstice alignment, and stop by between 5 and 8 p.m. to view the luminarias, lanterns, cultural demonstrators and refreshments. Park rangers will lead visitors from the visitor center to a winter solstice marker at 4:45 p.m. Luminarias will line the historic visitor center and electric lanterns will illuminate the archaeological site.

Parks, Recreation seeks personal stories

Durango Parks and Recreation is accepting personal stories from 150-400 words describing how Parks and Recreation has enriched people’s lives.

Contributors will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 Parks and Recreation gift certificate and other prizes. The entry deadline is Feb. 7. Participants may drop off or send their stories to: Durango Parks & Recreation, Community Recreation Center, Enrich Your Life – Story, 2700 Main Ave., Durango, CO 81301, email [email protected] with the subject “Enrich Your Life – Story,” or fax to 375-7337 with the title “Enrich Your Life – Story.” All submissions need a heading with name, address and phone number. Drawing winners will be notified by March 7. Prizes must be claimed by winners before June 30.
