One was Kathy Butler, who was principal bookkeeper/accountant during the first 15 years or so. She and her assistant, Elaine Brown, kept the paper business at top-level during those years. She not only kept books, she kept the operators, the stockholders, the banks and the vendors related to reality. She was extraordinary and left a great paper trail.
Fritz Tatzer, ski-school director and media/publicity personality, deserves credit for his input in bringing winter visits to more than 270,000 in the late 1970s.
Many of the early Legends’ people are not only important symbolically, they were in reality the capital allowing the place to succeed. In more ways than one, they were the working capital.
I especially enjoyed Katherine Burgess declaring “Purgatory” as a great ski-area name and also her subsequent comments on trail names.
