Some know Andrew Johnson as the 17th President of the United States.

This Andrew Johnson is the 25th football recruit for Fort Lewis College.

FLC added a skill player from north of the border, the Skyhawks’ athletic department announced Wednesday in a news release to The Durango Herald. Johnson, an Edmonton, Canada, native, signed his national letter of intent to play football at FLC, and the coaching staff expects the signing to pay immediate dividends.

“We expect Andrew to be one of, if not the premier receiver in our program,” FLC head coach John L. Smith said. “He has good size, good speed, great hands and should be a go-to target for us this season.”

Johnson, a 6-1, 205-pound wide receiver, was a four-year starter in high school. He played basketball, football, rugby and ran track. He played quarterback in high school.

Johnson has played his last couple of seasons a bit closer to Durango than Canada; he played two years at the New Mexico Military Institute, helping the Broncos win the El Toro Bowl in Yuma, Ariz.
