25 years ago: “Entertainer Lawrence Welk has made an offer to purchase the 37-acre Silver Pick Resort near the Purgatory Ski Area north of Durango, a real estate salesman says. The longtime television band leader, who made bubble music famous, has plans to change the resort that currently is ski oriented. … The resort, which Welk hasn’t personally seen yet, includes 41 condominiums and an 18,000-square-foot lodge with bar and restaurant.”
