Every week, we end up heading home with a basketful of the most tasty veggies, meats, cheese and bread that money can buy. My daughter enjoys the clothes we get from the market, and I drink my daily morning tea from a mug produced by another one of the artisans. My wife is ready to get her chopping knife sharpened upon the knife sharpener’s return this week. And sometimes I even get a chair massage at the market. Perhaps most important, I often have a chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones over the soundscape of great local music.
Now, as market manager, I am proud to be working for such an important purpose – local food and local economy! I can see that our board of directors and myself are doing the best we can to serve the mission of the market – to connect local people with local agriculture – and adhere to our own rules and regulations. It is a complex thing putting together some 60 vendors into a cohesive outdoor market, with limited space, every single week. I know that we are a lucky community to have such an amazing group of committed agriculturalists and lucky to have access to the organically produced food they grow.
I was elated to celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day with free giveaways at my information booth. Come visit us any Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until noon at the First National Bank parking lot and have a taste of “local flavor.”
