Bergdahl is now assigned to U.S. Army North at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston in Texas. That is the same location where he has been decompressing from the effects of his lengthy captivity.
His exact duties were not immediately disclosed. A brief Army announcement said that in his assignment to U.S. Army North he “can contribute to the mission” of homeland defense. It said the Army investigation into the circumstances of his disappearance and capture by the Taliban will continue.
Bergdahl was released from captivity on May 31 in exchange for five top Taliban commanders imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay.
