DENVER – A 19-year-old suburban Denver woman accused of trying to help a foreign terrorist organization plans to plead guilty in the case.

Federal documents filed Friday say an agreement has been reached in the case against Shannon Conley of Arvada. She was arrested at Denver International Airport in April while boarding a flight she hoped would ultimately get her to Syria.

Details of the agreement weren’t part of the court filing, but Conley’s public defender, Robert Pepin, asked to schedule a change of plea hearing. FBI agents say Conley was intent on waging jihad in the Middle East, despite their overt efforts to stop her.

Authorities say she wanted to live with a suitor she met online, who claimed to be fighting for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Religious leaders want ISIS stopped

DENVER – The Catholic archbishop of Denver and other religious leaders in the city are asking President Barack Obama to stop Iraqi militants threatening Christians in Iraq.

Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila and the leaders are asking the president to work through both diplomatic channels and “ethical intervention” to protect Christians as well as Jews and Muslims in the Middle East. The Peace, Love and Co-Existence initiative also calls on all religious leaders to advocate for the safety and the right to exist of for all Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities in the region.

The backers include Sheik Ahmen Nabhan of Masjid Al Salaam in Aurora and the leaders of several Eastern Christian churches.

Powerball winner may be from Rifle

RIFLE – People in Rifle are hoping one of their neighbors is the winner of Colorado’s largest Powerball jackpot.

The winning ticket for Saturday night’s multistate drawing was purchased at a Kum & Go convenience store in the city along Interstate 70. The $90 million ticketholder has yet to come forward.

Rifle, near the Roan Plateau, has struggled to recover from the recession and a drop in natural-gas drilling.

Resident Matt Archambault told The Glenwood Springs Post Independent he’s happy for whomever won.

The winner matched the five winning numbers – 3, 12, 31, 34, 51 – and the Powerball, 24.

Another Colorado ticket also won $1 million in the drawing. That ticket was purchased in Broomfield, and the winner hasn’t come forward yet either.
