Italian racer Elia Viviani used a powerful surge near the finish to capture Stage 4 at the USA Pro Challenge on Thursday. Jens Voigt of Trek Factory Racing attacked midway through the stage and had the lead but was caught by the pack with the finish line almost in sight. Viviani, of Cannondale Pro Cycling, finished the 70-mile circuit race around Colorado Springs in 2 hours, 28 minutes, 52 seconds. It was a rather calm day for defending champion Tejay van Garderen of BMC Racing, who retained the yellow jersey and his 20-second lead over Rafal Majka of Tinkoff-Saxo. Stage 5 on Friday is a 104-mile trek from Woodland Park to Breckenridge that will start out mellow before growing more and more mountainous.
