A pair of convincing wins left the Durango High School volleyball team feeling great leaving the Delta gymnasium Friday night.

The DHS Demons (2-1) picked up a pair of wins against Gunnison and Moffat County.

The day began with the Moffat County match, and the Demons claimed set wins of 25-6, 25-17 and 25-13 to quickly handle business.

“It was a great offensive game. We were able to play everybody, and the bench played great, too,” DHS head coach Colleen Keresey said.

Logan Clark led the Demons with 20 assists, and Maddie Robertson had 10 kills. Sarah Waller added another eight kills.

In the second match, the Demons overpowered Gunnison 25-14, 25-18 and 25-20. Clark amassed 35 assists despite it only being a three-set match.

Lia Henriksen led the Demons with nine kills, Ali Davis added six, and Laura Lieb five. Sarah Lawton, the team’s libero, had 15 digs, and Hailey Warren also had 10 digs.

“It was a great way to start off our season. Everyone played well, and it was good to get our first wins under our belt,” Keresey said.

The Demons will resume play at 8 a.m. Saturday with a match against Kennedy, and DHS will close out the tournament with a noon match against Wheat Ridge.
