Do we really want to hand over an $85,000-a-year paycheck to someone who just expects it? What is his real business experience? Who has hired him besides family members? County commissioners don’t invest tax dollars; they allocate funds. Now, he wants to just write the checks. Do we want the less-qualified person who has said at several forums that he wants a 9 to 5 job? I don’t think so.
Allison Morrissey’s whole career has prepared her for the position of treasurer. Yet she hasn’t sat back and let her résumé speak for itself. She has tirelessly knocked on more than 6,500 doors to meet the people whose tax dollars she will be charged with collecting and investing as well as trusting her to pay the county’s bills on time.
She has met with residents, not political party members, and has asked for their votes. Her work history, her education, her up-to-date knowledge of finance and money management will allow her to step into the treasurer’s office, ready to serve on day one. It’s your choice, your vote and your tax dollars: big name or substantial qualifications? I will vote for the person who has actually worked for the job of La Plata County treasurer: Allison Morrissey. I hope you will join me in making the right investment for our county and vote for her, too.
