The Oct. 19 editorial takes the issue of voter identification to task. In parroting Attorney General Eric Holder’s take on the subject, the editorial board is saying that minorities are unable to cope with the simple task of obtaining a driver’s license or state-issued identification card. I need to produce a photo ID when I withdraw my very own money out of the bank, board a plane, write a check or when stopped by law enforcement. These are everyday occurrences.
What the editorial is saying is that there is an underclass that never uses financial institutions, doesn’t drive and never travels. Is that racist or what?
I wonder if I have the editorial laminated if I can show that to the officer who stops me or produce it for the bank tellers when they ask for ID. Or can you imagine what the TSA would say when I pull out the laminated Herald editorial instead of a driver’s license?
