The Regional Housing Alliance of La Plata County offers a free monthly Homebuyer Education Class.
The class is an eight-hour program designed to help participants purchase and own a home. Topics will include: Buyer readiness, budget/financial management, credit reports and scoring, mortgage lending, working with a real estate agent, homeowners insurance, home inspections, the closing process, home maintenance and foreclosure prevention.
The class is facilitated by the alliance with contributions from local professionals such as loan officers, real estate agents and insurance agents who teach participants about their specific field of expertise.
The November class will be held in two sessions: The first session will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, and the final session will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Registration is required.

Bankruptcy clinic to be offered
Colorado Legal Services and Southwest Bar Volunteer Legal Aid will present a free clinic for filing a Chapter 7 bankruptcy from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 10.
The clinic (to low-income debtors who qualify) will walk participants through every step of the bankruptcy filing process and provide documents necessary to file for bankruptcy.

Veterans Day events announced
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4031 and members of the Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor the annual Veterans Day Parade at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 on Main Avenue.
Parade check-in will take place at 10 a.m. at East Third Avenue and College Drive. Parade entry forms are available at the post. Volunteers are also needed to be parade crossing guards. To volunteer or for more information, call Terry Saxon at 588-3344.
Veterans Day will include these activities:
The Veterans of Foreign Wars will place flags at 6 a.m. on Main Avenue.
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Main Avenue and College Drive and continue north on Main Avenue to 11th Street.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4031, 1550 Main Ave., will host an open house at 12:30 p.m.
American Legion Post 28, located at East Second Avenue and Ninth Street, will host an open house after the parade.
Farmington EMS to host food drive
San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Medical Services will sponsor a “Fill the Ambulance” food drive for Echo Food Bank.
A hospital ambulance and staff will be stationed at the East Main Walmart from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 15 to collect nonperishable food donations. Echo Food Bank makes food available for hungry people in Northwest New Mexico including impoverished families, children and senior citizens.

Arts, crafts bazaar to be held
Pine River Senior Center, 111 South West St. in Bayfield, will host its sixth annual Arts & Crafts Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
All proceeds will benefit the Pine River Senior Center. A bake sale and silent auction also will be held. Concessions will be sold.
