The 28th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 27 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave. Turkey and all the trimmings will be served. There is no charge for the dinner, but donations will be accepted. Help is needed for setting up, cooking, decorating, serving, delivering meals and cleaning up. To donate a pie for the dinner, drop it off at the fairgrounds on Thanksgiving morning.

Mesa Verde Paint Horse Club to meet
Mesa Verde Paint Horse Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Lost Dog Bar & Lounge, 1150 Main Ave.
The main topic will be the election of new officers for 2015 since the members holding these positions are no longer able to continue doing so.

Ignacio library to host event
The Ignacio Community Library will host “MakerSpace” from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays at 470 Goddard Ave.
People can share ideas with other like-minded creators, crafters and tinkers. People should bring their own supplies; the library will provide some supplies. No sign-up is required.

FLC to celebrate Veterans Day
Fort Lewis College will celebrate Veterans Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.
People are invited to write the name of a veteran in their life on the college’s Path of Honor Board located in the Student Union lobby.
Veterans from the Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan will speak on what Veterans Day means to them at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Vallecito Room. Refreshments will be provided.
Federal program to host meeting
The Title VII Native American Education Program will host a Parent Advisory Committee meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room 2070 of Durango High School.

Native plant society to meet Wednesday
The San Juan/Four Corners Native Plant Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lyceum Room of Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.
The “Biology of the Newly Discovered Phlox, Ipomopsis ramosa (Coral Ipomopsis)” will be presented by FLC biology students.
Ipomopsis ramosa is a summer-blooming herbaceous Phlox (Polemoniaceae), which was discovered in 2006 along the Roaring Fork, a tributary of the Dolores River. The plant was discovered by Al and Betty Schneider and was named and described by Al Schneider and John Bregar in 2011. The student research looked at the distribution, relationship and reproductive biology of Ipomopsis ramosa.
CDOT announces road maintenance
Colorado Department of Transportation will perform these maintenance activities:
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday – delineator work will be performed on the Red Mountain Pass Summit north on U.S. Highway 550. Travelers will face minimal impact but should watch for roadside vehicles.
From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday until winter starts – crack sealing will take place from the north edge of Durango city limits on U.S. Highway 550 north for 10 miles. The speed limit will be reduced with single-lane, alternating traffic and 10 to 15 minute delays.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday until winter starts – shoulder work will be performed west of Pagosa Springs on U.S. Highway 160. Speed will be reduced to 40 mph with single-lane, alternating traffic and some delays.
