The fourth annual Taste of Native Cuisine & Culture Expo 2014 will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Southern Ute Cultural Center & Museum, 503 Ouray Drive in Ignacio.

The event will feature entrees and desserts blending traditional native food staples and modern culinary techniques as expressed by indigenous Chef M. Karlos Baca and Sous Chefs Anthony Hamlin and Stephan Mann. There also will be Ute dancers, singers, live music and vendors.

The cost is $12 for adults, $8 for youth ages 7 to 15 and free for children younger than 7 with an adult paid entrance. The cost includes museum admission. Tickets are available at Maria’s Bookshop, Dancing Spirit Gallery in Ignacio and in advance or at the door of the Southern Ute Cultural Center & Museum.

Holiday book sale to be held at library

Friends of the Durango Public Library will host its annual Holiday Book Sale from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the library, 1900 East Third Ave.

Year-end bargain prices will be $1 a pound. Shoppers also can choose to fill a Friend’s bag with books for $10. Book Lovers’ page-a-day calendars will be for sale. All proceeds will go toward library programs and services.

Life-Long lecture series continues

The Life-Long Learning Lecture Series at Fort Lewis College will present “Economic Transition to a New Future: From Command to Market-Based Economics through a Croatian Lens” at 7 p.m. Thursday in Noble Hall, Room 130 at FLC.

Robert Sonora, professor of economics at FLC with expertise in monetary and international economics, is a two-time Fulbright Scholar and has been a visiting scholar at the University of Zagreb every spring since 2008. Through his experiences in Croatia, he will share a short history of the country, his impressions of its people and culture, and its new place in the European Union.

Artisan’s Holiday Gift Show, Sale to be held

The 17th annual Artisan’s Holiday Gift Show & Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Oak Room of the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

The fair will feature an eclectic blend of hand-crafted work by local artisans. Door prizes will be given.

FLC ski team to screen ski movie

Fort Lewis College Big Mountain Ski Team will screen a ski movie on Thursday in the Smiley Building Theatre, 1309 East Third Ave.

The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the FLC campus and at Pine Needle Mountaineering. The cost is $10 for students, $12 in advance and $15 at the door

Vallecito Nordic to host fundraiser

The Vallecito Nordic Fall Fundraiser and Silent Auction will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lost Dog Bar & Lounge, 1150 Main Ave.

The fundraiser will feature live music by Running Out of Road and Nordic ski package raffle. All proceeds will go toward trail grooming and maintenance.
