La Plata Conservation District will hold its annual meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Pine Room of the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
An open board meeting will take place at 4 p.m. A program including speakers Dylan Eiler presenting “Source Water Protection” and Ann Oliver presenting “Animas Drinking Water Alliance Update” will take place at 5 p.m. Light snacks will be provided.

AHS class to present rhetorical discourse
Animas High School’s junior humanities will present a rhetorical discourse titled “Deconstructing Our America: An Evening of Rhetorical Discourse” at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at Animas City Theater, 128 East College Drive.
The students will showcase their opinions on political, economic and social issues in America. They have been studying the inter-workings of the United States. Through this process, the students have been able to form their own opinions and voices about democratic society.
Cooking class to be held in Bayfield
“The Gluten-Free Holiday Feast” a free, demonstration-style cooking class, will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, Bayfield.
Executive Chef Pedro Ulibarri, from Fort Lewis College Dining Services, will show participants how to prepare seared tenderloin with rosemary au jus, spring mix salad and julienne butternut squash. The class will feature free samples and recipes. Advance sign-up is required.

Highland Soles Trio to perform Tuesday
The Durango Scottish Dancers and the Durango Celtic Festival will present the Highland Soles Trio at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Rocky Mountain Retreat, 848 East Third Ave.
Ed, Neil and Lilly Pearlman, from the Boston area, will provide an evening of Scottish fiddling, Cape Breton step dancing and piano-playing. Tickets are $15 per person.

4-H club to host information night
A free chili-cook-off and 4-H information night will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday followed by a family dance from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Animas Valley Grange, 7271 County Road 203.
Participants will be able to eat, browse 4-H projects, talk to 4-Hers and dance. 4-H offers rocketry, food preservation, computer science, wildlife biology, world citizenship, cake decorating, small scale poultry, woodworking, and more. In addition to the knowledge and skills gained, kids learn life skills such as public speaking, self-esteem, responsibility, and leadership.
