Allison Morrissey, newly elected La Plata County Treasurer, will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave., about her recent successful campaign.

Morrissey will lead a discussion about the attitude, skills and abilities needed to win a local election.

Morrissey’s international career has included being a director of human resources for a large chemical manufacturer as well as managing global-sales processes for a multinational software company. She also is on the board of Durango Friends of the Arts and the Community Foundation. Morrissey earned a degree in accounting from Fort Lewis College and a MBA from the University of Minnesota.

Archaeology society to meet Jan. 6

The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society will present Dan Simplicio at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Methodist Church, 515 Park St. in Cortez.

Simplicio will discuss “‘Besides Jewelry:’ Other Uses of Turquoise by the A:shiwi (Zuni) People.” He will discuss how turquoise is understood and used by the Zuni people as well as how this relationship has changed through time.
