A fermented foods class will take place at 10 a.m. Jan. 24 at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave.
The class will explore the health benefits of kimchi, kefir, sauerkraut and more. People will have the opportunity to taste some fermented foods as well as learn how to make their own. Sign-up is required.

Natural Foods Coop announces programs
Durango Natural Foods Coop, 575 East Eighth Ave., will offer these programs:
Women’s Clothing and Gear Swap will take place at 6 p.m. Jan. 20. Light snacks will be provided.
A soup and olive oil sea salt cracker class by Chef Charis Rose will take place at 6 p.m. Jan. 27. Rose will teach how to make homemade cream-based soups and olive oil sea salt crackers from organic whole foods. Other soups, such as bean soups and chili, will be discussed. Samples will be served. Registration is needed by 8 p.m. Jan. 26. Payment of $5 per person should be prepaid at registration. For late registration, call Rose at 247-8129. Registration will be $7 on the day of the class.
A fermentation and organic kimchi-making class by Rachel Turiel will take place at 6 p.m. Feb. 24. Participants will learn the history and science behind fermentation and the basics for making many ferments including fruit and vegetable, dairy, vinegars and beverages. People will sample different ferments and take home a pint of kimchi. Instructional handouts and recipes will be included. Participants should bring their own pint Mason jar, knife and cutting board. Prepayment of $17 is needed by 8 p.m. Feb. 23. For late registration, email [email protected]. The cost of registration the day of the class will be $20.

Volunteers needed for Durango Food Bank
The Durango Food Bank is looking for people interested in joining its planning/fundraising committee for the second annual Durango Food Bank Stampede.
This nontraditional rodeo will include events for the family with Bicycle Barrel Racing, Lawn-Mower Races, Stick Pony Race, etc. The first planning meeting will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Vectra Bank Conference Room, 1201 Escalante Drive. The event will take place Sept. 19.
