The 6th Judicial District is seeking volunteer speakers for the Victim Impact Panel held every other month at La Plata County Combined Courts.

Durango’s boards and commissions provide a foundation for public input. Boards and commissions generally meet monthly. Brief interviews with applicants will be conducted by city councilors in late January and early February.

Dolores permit party will be Friday

Dolores River Boating Advocates will host its second annual Permit Party at the Dolores Community Center from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday.

The party will feature music by The Groovers, the film “The Warm Springs,” and a silent auction featuring a trip for two on the Yampa River. River-permit information and applications will be available, and there will be food and beverages for purchase.

Independence Center hosts celebration

Southwest Center for Independence will host a celebration of social justice for people with disabilities Monday.

The center, a local nonprofit that helps people with disabilities live well in the community, will have events throughout the day starting at 9 a.m. when Waddie Welcome will start conversations about community, empowerment and friendship. Participants are invited to bring a dish to share for a “Meet, Greet and Eat” with staff and learn about the mission and activities of the center at 11 a.m. In the afternoon, there will be a history of origins of the disability-rights movement, as well as learning about deinstitutionalization for people with disabilities and the start of ADAPT, a grass-roots, national disability-rights group.

Road Runner Transit announces closure

Road Runner Transit will not operate Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

City announces holiday schedule

This is the city’s schedule for Monday:

City administrative offices will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, including Durango City Hall, River City Hall, Durango Police Station and Substation, Durango-La Plata County Airport, Greenmount Cemetery and Parks and Recreation administrative offices.

Durango Community Recreation Center, Chapman Hill, and the Mason Center will all be open with regular hours and scheduled classes.

Durango Public Library and all branches will be closed.

Residential and commercial trash and recycling collections will occur as scheduled with all drop-off locations open; however, the Durango Recycling Center will be closed.

Transit and the trolley will run regular schedules on all routes. The Transit Center’s cashier window will be closed.

Parking meters will be free in the downtown area.
