Science center to host Valentine’s event

The Powerhouse Science Center will host “Totally Inappropriate Date Night” on Saturday.

The Powerhouse will host a discussion on the ecology and evolution of mating behavior. Attendees also will delve into the mammalian cardiovascular system by dissecting a pig heart.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Cost is $35 per couple, members get a 10 percent discount. Limited spots are available.

Durango Garden Club to meet Wednesday

The Garden Club of Durango will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Betty Kibby, 4019 County Road 301.

Local seed collector, Jon Zuzy, will present a program on collecting, harvesting and germinating various varieties of flowers. Information about local seed banks and seed library programs will be available.

To carpool, meet at 12:30 p.m. at the Santa Rita Gardens.

Practices set for ‘1 Billion Rising’ event

On Saturday, the Sexual Assault Services Organization will present 1 Billion Rising, a dancing and drumming event to stand up against violence against women.

Practices for the 1 billion rising dance will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the SASO office, Suite 312, 701 Camino del Rio.
