I loved the Chinese dragon, and I’m sure our resident East Asian residents enjoyed it. I think Durangoans would love to see the transformations according to the time of year. Perhaps on the Fourth of July it will become the “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” In the fall, it’s an elk fleeing from the hunters who scavenge the forests. At Christmas? Why not feature a Santa Claus, whose cheerful chuckle warms everyone’s hearts?
Make its “heading and beheading” an opportunity for which applications are submitted and then chosen by a downtown committee. We all appreciate art, and we all also appreciate spoofs and funny events. Give us a chance to laugh together during a time when there is so much sadness in the world! Besides, I think any artist would be delighted to have that much attention given to their creation.
Bravo to the folks who have taken a stand!
