Move over, Tim McClellan, it’s time for other Durango furniture makers to shine.

Need to spruce up your living room? Do you like the local radio station KDUR? Well then the 14th annual KDUR Furniture as Art Auction at the Durango Arts Center might be right up your alley.

The premise is simple. Local designers create their furniture, and select pieces are displayed around town. You may have seen them at Lost Dog Bar & Lounge, Animas Trading Co. or Open Shutter Gallery. If you saw something you like, now’s your chance to bid on it.

The work of 23 different designers will be auctioned live, and eight designers will contribute pieces to a silent auction. The wide range of pieces to bid on includes: a soft table, a KDUR-themed chair, a coffee table, a sofa table and a side cabinet – something for everyone.

All of the proceeds will go to KDUR, which is based at Fort Lewis College.

“There’s a handful of artists who have done it every single year since it began,” said KDUR station manager Bryant Liggett.

And the event wouldn’t be complete without a real, live auctioneer. Calvin Story from Treasure Auction Service will be on hand, talking fast and whatnot.

If live auctions aren’t your thing, there’s always the silent auction, in which attendees can place their bids on paper. In addition to the furniture art, the auction will include items such as books and KDUR swag, and Tyrannosaurus Jazz will provide entertainment.
