Mesa Verde National Park will waive entrance fees Saturday and Sunday in celebration of National Park Week.
Balcony House will be open for the season. Tours are $4 per person, per tour. Tickets may be purchased at the Visitor and Research Center located at the entrance to the park. Spruce Tree House is open for tours; no reservation is required.

Children’s water festival seeks helpers
The 20th annual Children’s Water Festival will be held May 6 at Fort Lewis College.
Thirty volunteer guides are needed to lead more than 700 regional fifth-grade students and their classes to various water-related stations on campus. In exchange for this service, a continental breakfast, water-festival T-shirt, gourmet lunch and a keepsake water bottle and bag will be provided. In addition, the festival qualifies for seven hours of community service.
Guides will need to meet at 7:30 a.m. at the FLC Student Union Ballroom and will likely be finished sometime between 2 and 3 p.m. To volunteer, call Denise Rue-Pastin 247-1302, 946-9024 or email [email protected] by April 21.
Help frame a home in May
The Habitat Hammers Club is looking for volunteers one day a week to help build a Habitat home in Bayfield.
Framing will start in May. A meeting will be held for interested people at 8:30 a.m. April 21 at the Habitat ReStore, 120 Girard St., Suite E.

Driver-safety class offered April 22
A Smart Driver Safety class, a defensive-driving class sponsored by the AARP Driver Safety Program, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 22 in the Pine Room at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
Registration will take place at 8:15 a.m. The class is a nationwide Department of Motor Vehicles accredited, defensive-driving program that highlights recognizing and compensating for naturally occurring age-related changes. The certificate is good for three years.
Auto-insurance discounts apply for drivers age 55 and older for the three years. The cost for AARP members is $15 and $20 for nonmembers and includes all class materials.
Beekeepers will hold a Saturday potluck
The Four Corners Beekeepers Association will host a potluck at 1 p.m. Saturday at a member’s home.
The group plans to hive a Top Bar and a Langstroth hive. Participants should bring a dish and a chair.
