How to live easier with menopause

Marija Helt will teach a class on natural support for menopause from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dancing Willow Herbs, 1018 Main Ave.

Menopause is a normal shift that all women who live to a certain age will go through. What women eat and how they live can influence how easy or difficult the transition is. The group will discuss the nutritional, lifestyle and herbal tips for easing the change.

Our Farmers Market will begin in May

The Durango Farmers Market will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays from May 9 to September and from 9 a.m. to noon in October at the First National Bank of Durango parking lot located at Camino del Rio and 8th Street.

No dogs are allowed.

Ignacio library announces programs

These programs will take place at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave.:

Basic Home Wiring will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and 3 to 5 p.m. May 4. The class will cover switch and plug installation and replacement while emphasizing electrical safety, basic tools and techniques.

Electric switches will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. May 9 and from 2 to 5 p.m. May 11. Participants will explore various ways to interrupt circuits using everyday items to create switches.

Electric sensors will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. May 16 and from 3 to 5 p.m. May 18. This class will cover ways to incorporate sensors for controlling electronic circuitry.

Electro magnet will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. May 23 and from 3 to 5 p.m. May 25. Participants will create an electro magnet using straws, wire, a nail and a battery to take a hands-on look at this relationship.

Third-hand build will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. May 30 and from 3 to 5 p.m. June 1. Electronic builds, especially those requiring soldering, usually are much easier with a third (or fourth) hand. Participants will construct a version of this basic soldering helper. Registration is needed to insure there are enough parts. Donations of $5 to $10 will be accepted.

Humane Society to hold an election

The La Plata County Humane Society will have its annual meeting and elections of three new board members at 10 a.m. May 9 at the humane society board room, 1111 South Camino Del Rio.
