The La Plata County Living with Wildlife Advisory Board and Colorado Parks & Wildlife have collaborated to acquire a large banner, which will be displayed over Durango’s downtown Main Avenue to increase driver awareness during wildlife-migration periods in the spring and fall.
The groups remind residents that deer and elk are migrating to higher ground during the next few weeks. Drivers should be extra vigilant on area highways especially during the dawn and dusk hours.

Historian to talk about Durango police
Sharon Greve, volunteer historian for Durango Police Department, will talk about the department’s history to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.
Started in the year of Durango’s 1881 founding, its very early history included a sheriff’s ending a reign of terror from a gang in a shootout with the gang leader. Another early challenge was regaining control of the streets given the gambling, saloons and prostitution houses of those early days. Greve’s work in capturing this history began several years ago at the request of Police Chief Jim Spratlen. Visitors are welcome.
