The marina, located in New Mexico just south of the Colorado border and about 50 miles from Durango, has a series of events scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event is part of National Marina Day, a nationwide collaboration of marine-related businesses. The event is an attempt to increase boating participation and to introduce the public to boating through both on-water and on-land events at marinas.
Among the events scheduled at Navajo Lake Marina:
9-11 a.m. – There will be a shoreline trash cleanup.
11 a.m.-4 p.m. – The marina is letting people try out ocean kayaks for no charge.
11 a.m.-3 p.m. – Fishing contest for kids 14 and under.
11 a.m.-3 p.m. – The U.S. Coast Guard auxiliary will have a booth where it will give out advice and hand out information on boat and water safety. It will also inspect boats.
Noon-3:30 p.m. – Live music.
11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. – Tour of a 75-foot houseboat.
