Durango Nature Studies will host Weekly Wee Walk Abouts for preschool-age children from 10 to 11 a.m. each Wednesday through August at the Pavilion at Rotary Park.
The cost is $5 per child, and free for members. Group discounts are available. A naturalist will meet participants by Rotary Park for an hour of activities and walking along the Animas River Trail. No reservations are necessary.

The Durango Kennel Club will host a program on canine chiropractic at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds Extension Building, 2500 Main Ave.

Humane Society to host Adopt-a-thon
The La Plata County Humane Society, 1111 South Camino del Rio, will celebrate its 13th annual Adopt-a-thon from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The goal is to adopt out as many animals within a two-day period. The Thrift Store will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., as well. Adult animals will have reduced adoption fees; adult cats will be $10, and adult dogs will be $50. The humane society will have a concession stand and will serve burgers, bratwursts, hot dogs, drinks and snow cones. Some prizes will be given to the adopters at the end of the Adopt-a-thon including an iPad Air from Connecting Point and pet portraits by Dinah Swan.
Support veterans at Elks breakfast
Breakfast will be served from 9 to 11 a.m. the first and third Sunday of every month at the Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave.
Participants should use the East Second Avenue entrance. A donation of $6 per meal, or $5 per meal for veterans, is suggested. All proceeds will go to the Local Veterans Committee.
Help Vallecito raise funds for fireworks
A Chili Supper and Chili Cook-Off will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. June 21 at Lake Vallecito Community Center off of County Road 501.
The event is sponsored by the Vallecito Service League with proceeds supporting the July 3 Lake Vallecito fireworks display.
The cost for chili, spicy or mild, with all the fixings is $6; hot dogs and chili dogs with all the fixings are $6, and an all-you-can-eat selection will be available for $10.
The entry fee for the chili cook-off is $10. The cost for tasting and judging is $1 per taste. Prizes will be awarded. Fixings include beans, cornbread, cheese, onions, jalapeños, chips, tea or lemonade and dessert.
