Ignacio Community Library has been selected to receive a competitive Latino Americans: 500 Years of History grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.

The library will receive a cash grant of $3,000 to hold public programming – such as public film screenings, discussion groups, oral history initiatives, local history exhibitions, multimedia projects or performances – about Latino history and culture.

Planned programs at Ignacio Community Library will include public screenings, discussions, lectures and more.

Three Springs to offer farm stand

Tierra Vida Farms will offer fresh produce from 4 to 7 p.m. beginning Thursday and continuing every Thursday throughout the season in Three Springs Plaza.

Clean Commute activities announced

These activities will take place as part of the city of Durango’s Clean Commute Week from Saturday to June 25:

People can ride Durango Transit free all week.

Free bicycle micro tunes and bicycle registration will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Farmers Market. Minor adjustments will be made. Bikes also can be registered with the Durango Police Department.

Learn about Americans with Disabilities Act Transportation options from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. The Southwest Center for Independence will host an informational session on discounted transit passes, Opportunity Bus eligibility, Road Runner stage lines and more.

A community forum and Bike Fashion Show will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave.

Bike to Work Day will take place from 7 to 9 a.m. Wednesday. Clean Commute breakfast stations will be set up in front of Mercy Regional Medical Center and on Main Avenue in front of the Steaming Bean Coffee Co.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for 2nd and 15th Connectivity Project will take place at 4:30 p.m. June 25 at Rotary Park.

The Pedal vs. Metal Errand Run, a race against the clock that involves completing four to five errands around town, will begin at 4:30 p.m. June 25 in Rotary Park. The transportation mode to complete its errands in the shortest amount of time will be the victor.

A group ride to the Love Your Commute Party will depart at 4:45 p.m. June 25 from Rotary Park.

Love Your Commute Party will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. June 25 at Ska Brewing Co., 225 Girard St.

Meditation series begins next week

The Durango Dharma Center will offer a five-week series of classes on mindfulness meditation.

Taught by Dharma Leader Bill Ball, the class will introduce participants to practice basics through teachings, discussions, guided meditation and homework.

Multiple studies have found that meditation can bring a range of beneficial effects, including reduction in stress and negative emotions.

The series will begin Wednesday and continue each Wednesday in July through July 22. Classes will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Durango Dharma Center, 208 East Animas Road (County Road 250).
