La Plata County staff will hold a public meeting on La Plata County’s 2016 budget at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the boardroom at the County Administration Building, 1101 East Second Ave.

At this meeting, staff members will provide a presentation regarding the current financial position of the county and the direction the county is heading in creating a budget for 2016 that supports the needs of the community. After the presentation, the public will have the opportunity to provide input into the development of the 2016 budget. Residents who are unable to attend but would like to provide input may email their suggestions, comments or concerns to [email protected].

4-H youth agent speaks to Rotarians

Greg Felsen, 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent for the La Plata County Extension Office, will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

Felsen will speak about the organization’s youth programs and the upcoming La Plata County Fair. Open to urban and rural youths ages 5 to 19, more than 300 La Plata County youth participate in local club, county, state and national activities. Felsen, a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for Community Engagement, has successfully helped foster growth in 4-H programs at a time when many 4-H programs are struggling.

DHS Aerospace team addresses High Noon

The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

The cost for lunch is $15.

The Durango High School Aerospace team will give the club an overview on the program.

Habitat for Humanity holds fete for builders

Hammers and High Heels will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. July 25 at Ska Brewing Co., 225 Girard St. The event offers people in the building industry a chance to network and socialize while supporting Habitat for Humanity.

There will be appetizers, beverages, a silent auction and live music with Neil Nelson. Tickets may be purchased at Ska Brewing Co., First National Bank of Durango, the Restore in Bodo Industrial Park or at www.habitatlaplata.org.
