Mullein, also known as velvet plant, is thriving in the wild in Southwest Colorado this summer thanks to record rainfalls. This specimen is over five feet tall and is one of many growing along County Road 501 north of Bayfield. <br><br>The plant, known by its scientific name of verbascum, is used as an herbal remedy for disorders of the respiratory tract, skin and gastrointestinal tract.PHoto by Carole McWilliams
