Currently, the city of Durango is struggling to protect the Animas River with the deteriorating condition of the current facility, but even with all of its efforts it is becoming impossible to keep ammonia levels below their threshold with a facility that is at capacity. A new facility will not only reduce ammonia but will also reduce nutrient levels and significantly reduce odors. By not voting “yes,” the reconstruction of the plant will be delayed, which will continue to threaten the water quality of the Animas River.
Voting “yes” will not raise your taxes but it will ensure that the water quality of the Animas River is not further damaged by human needs. For the Animas River, vote “yes” on the city of Durango’s Question 2B.
