“Flag retirement ceremonies are usually conducted in a private setting, but we are using the event to promote flag etiquette advocacy,” said Richard Schleeter, who will be leading the ceremony. “We want to educate young people in the community about American heritage and the important roll the flag plays in our national history and identity.”
Community members are invited to bring any personal flags they would also like to retire to the event. The flags will be burned in the fire pit outside the library.
After the ceremony, treats and hot drinks will be provided by the library, so attendees can continue to enjoy the warmth of the fire. The event will coincide with the Friends of the Library Winter Book and Bake Sale also scheduled for that afternoon, so come down to the library and make an afternoon of it!
