The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14 at Raw Synergy. Happy hour starts at 5:30 p.m.
Raw Synergy is a health spa that also provides massages and coaching. It is located at 480 Wolverine Drive, Suite 8 (between Momentum 24-7 Fitness and Hong’s Garden in Bayfield Canter.)

SJMA holding snowshoe tour
Bundle up for the Starry Night Snowshoe Tour at Andrews Lake. San Juan Mountains Association presents this free event in partnership with San Juan National Forest on from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 9. Snowshoers should bring lots of warm clothing, warm boots, hot drinks, binoculars, and a flashlight with a red lens. Snowshoes will be needed. Kids’ and small adult snowshoes are available for free upon request.

Parents can learn about home safety
On Tuesday, Jan. 12, Holly Allen from SafeCare Colorado will present a Safety for Parents workshop from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Pine River Library. Allen will be covering 10 hazards specifically: poison, falls, sharp objects, crush hazards, fire/electrical, organic/allergen, suffocation, drowning, choking, and guns. These hazards will be covered by age group and there will be a group brainstorming session on ways to prevent these terrible things from happening, including having a fire safety plan. Parents will be provided with choke tubes to measure if objects are a choking hazard as well as some other goodies.

Heritage Society holding annual meeting
The Pine River Valley Heritage Society will hold its annual meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Pine River Library.
All members and interested members of the public are invited.
Thirty-one distributor holding benefit sale
Ute Eckstein, an independent distributor for Thirty-One, will hold a benefit sale for Melanie Mazur, who has Stage 1 breast cancer. Mazur is the mother of two and editor of the Pine River Times. Thirty-One offers bags, purses, jewely, organization items, and totes.
The benefit sale runs through Jan. 14. with 20 percent of all proceeds being donated to Mazur to help cover medical bills. Items can be ordered online at www.mythirtyone.com/uteeckstein, then selecting Melanie’s Party, or by calling Eckstein at 799-0158.
Book group to discuss Harper Lee
Harper Lee and her classic book, To Kill a Mockingbird, will be the topic of the Pine River Library monthly book discussion on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m. Lee’s only other book, Go Set a Watchman, will be discussed on Feb. 10. It was published last year to mixed reviews.

Quilt guild to meet Thursday
La Plata Quilters Guild will meet on Thursday, Jan. 14 at their new location, First United Methodist Church at 2917 Aspen Drive in Durango. The program will include completed Block of the Month projects from 2015, awards for the UFO challenge (unfinished objects) and installation of officers for 2016.
