Vallecito outdoors group holding potluck

The Vallecito Conservation and Sporting Association will host its annual wild game potluck fundraiser tomorrow. The event takes place at the Lake House at 17460 CR 501. A silent auction and bucket drawing will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m., and a live auction starts at 2 p.m. There will be drawings for a Ruger pistol, Nikon spotting scope, Mossberg 270 rifle and a Bear Cruzer bow. Everyone is welcome to attend, and participants are asked to bring a favorite wild game dish or side dish to share. Admission is free. Ticket sales start for Snowdown fashion event

Ticket sales for Snowdown Fashion Do’s and Don’ts start at 6 a.m. tomorrow at Magpie’s News Stand, 707 Main Ave. in downtown Durango. According to organizers, the line forms early, and the event sells out quickly. There’s a limit of four tickets per person. They are $15 for regular seating including lunch or $20 for runway seating; or $6 for standing room only seating with no lunch or drink.

Fashion Do’s and Don’ts will be Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall. It shows each year why Durango was named as a worst dressed community in the country. There will be prizes for audience member outfits in the Back to the ’80’s Snowdown theme. Snowdown event brochures are now available around the county and at www.snowdown.org.

Free radon education classes offered at Pine River Library

Wendy Rice of the La Plata County Extension Office will lead a free class on radon awareness at the Pine River Library at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, and 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

All participants will receive a free radon testing kit. Advance registration is required, as the number of kits are limited.

These two classes will be followed by a radon mitigation class on Wednesday, March 2 at 5:45 p.m. This follow-up class will help you learn what steps to take after determining the radon levels in your home.

Beekeeping class offered

Beginning beekeeping classes will be held on Fridays, Jan. 22 and 29 from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Feb. 5 at at the La Plata County Fairgrounds extension building. Classes will cover steps needed to get started with bees: buying bees, hive placement, comb management, disease and mite prevention, honey processing, and much more.  The teacher is an 11-year beekeeper in both top bar and Langstroth hives.  This curriculum is accredited by the Colorado State Master Beekeeper program. Library offering digital privacy class

Ignacio Community Library will offer a digital privacy workshop at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20. Participants will learn the ins and outs of protecting themselves online.

“Learn how to stay safe, keep your kids safe, and not get scammed,” a library staffer wrote. “We will explore good browsing habits, passwords, and malware/virus. Anyone and everyone is welcome, all ages and computer skill levels.” The class is free.

Free parenting class begins Jan. 21

Learn research-based strategies for improving cnildren’s behavior in the 14-week parenting class being offered by Bayfield Early Education Programs. The class, The Incredible Years, will start at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21 at the BEEP preschool. Free child care and food will be provided. Jen Gosney and Jackie Juliano will be the facilitators. Grange holding bunco party
