Rebates are also available to homeowner associations that sponsor a chipping day. The program will run until Oct. 30. Rebate forms are available at www.southwestcoloradofires.org (For the Homeowner tab) and most equipment rental stores. Contact Bill Trimarco at 264-0430 or [email protected] for more information.

In honor of Arbor Day, the San Juan National Forest is offering native Ponderosa pine seedlings free to the public on a first come, first serve basis from Friday, April 22, through Friday, April 29, or as long as supplies last, at its offices in Durango, Dolores, Bayfield and Pagosa Springs.

Individuals can pick up a maximum of 10 seedlings per person. Seedlings should be kept cool (in the shade or in a refrigerator) and be planted within the next week. Seedlings come with instructions on how to plant and care for the young trees. For more information, contact the San Juan National Forest at 247-4874.

Is all the talk about gluten-free diets hype? And what about all the new products hitting stores and menus? Or is gluten secretly robbing you and your family of optimal health?

Local dietitian/ nutritionist Fran Sutherlin will discuss “Healing Your Gut: Gluten 101” at the Pine River Library. Sutherlin will discuss how gluten impacts health. The talk is at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 28.

“The term ‘gluten-free’ is popping up in grocery stores and on restaurant menus. Gluten is a hot topic, and yet we have to be careful as the term ‘gluten-free’ does not ensure ‘healthy,'” Sutherlin said. “With that said, whole-food nutrition healing does not have to be complicated. Let’s keep our whole-food nutrition health journey simple, practical, and most importantly doable!”
