Krugman asserts, via some twisted logic, that Sanders somehow denigrates African-American voters by noting the obvious fact that Clinton’s lead is attributable in large measure to victories in the southern states with significant numbers of Democratic minorities. At first blush it does seem counterintuitive that African-American support for Clinton is so strong given the legacy of President Clinton’s crime bill, welfare reform and Hillary Clinton’s racist references to “super-predators.” Apparently name recognition, association with President Obama and the frequent, transparently pandering allusions to Obama in public appearances and debates have carried the day.

Krugman is almost certainly correct in predicting a Clinton nomination victory but I will continue to cheer Sanders on through the convention because his voice needs to be heard. I am a long-time admirer of Krugman’s economic analyses. The sooner he gets off the Clinton bandwagon and returns to his area of expertise the better.
