Local salsero Kennie Monger will teach a salsa dance class at the Pine River Library from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 30. It’s offered as part of the Summer Reading Program theme of “Exercise Your Mind: READ.” The library is offering a series of fitness-related classes for adults throughout the summer.
Monger will teach the basic salsa dancing steps. He taught a very popular salsa class series at the library in March. Space is limited, so call the library or come in to register for the class before it fills up!

A property tax exemption may be available for the tax year 2016, affecting taxes payable in 2017 for qualifying seniors and disabled veterans, and surviving spouses of those who previously qualified.
For those who qualify, 50 percent of the first $200,000 of the actual value of their primary residence may be exempt. The state pays the tax on the portion that is exempt from property tax if monies are available.
Once approved, the exemption remains in effect for future years, and the applicant should not reapply. To verify if you are already signed up or if you would like to receive an application or brochure, please call the La Plata County Assessor’s Office at 382-6228. The application deadline for seniors is July 15.

The Vallecito Service League will hold its annual art fair and bake sale next weekend on Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3.

Wolfe Brewing Company in Pagosa Springs welcomes animals from Wolfwood Refuge, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, at the brewery.
This event is free and open to the public.no dogs please. Visitors will be treated to a day of fun and education combined with lots of wolf kisses. An educational talk will take place at 1:30.
For a $10 donation to Wolfwood Refuge, participants will receive a pint glass and Wolfe Brewery will fill it with the brew or soft drink of your choice.

The Bayfield Firecracker 5K Run and Family Walk is set for 8 a.m. on Monday, July 4, starting and finishing at Joe Stephenson Park.
Adult registration is $35 and is available before the race. For ages 12-18, the cost is $25 on July 4. Children 12 and under participate for free.
Proceeds benefit the La Plata Family Centers Coalition Bayfield programs, including Pine River Shares, Bayfield Afterschool and the Summer Camp Enrichment Program.
