If approved, the ordinance would revise penalties and fines, and enforce regulations to prevent wildlife, particularly bears, from being able to access trash within the city limits.

This summer, code enforcement officers have responded to more than 200 bear-and-trash complaints, and are taking proactive measures in areas with high bear activity. Fines have been issued and numerous property owners are now required to use wildlife-resistant trash containers.
