75 years ago: Ten men would depart “for the armed forces,” according to the local selective service board. The Navy accepted Thomas Garcia and Paul W. Cordova, and the Army accepted Joe A. Maynes, Manuel J. Vega, William Henry Burrows, Clay Y. McCulloch, Joe L. Corralz, Chester E. Steward, Ernest J. McConnell and Henry O. Thomas.

50 years ago: The “inactive La Plata Fire Volunteers” counted up the mailed-in ballots for a tax-supported rural fire protection district and found that there were 278 against the motion versus 184 in support.
