McAllister is a faculty member in the Ethnic Studies Program at NAU, where he teaches courses on African American studies, the history of racial formation in the United States and race relations in American films. His research has focused on the history of African American and Native American relations in the Southwest during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

His lecture will be based on his master’s thesis, “John Taylor and Racial Formation in the Ute Borderlands.”
