The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports that Montrose County Lt. William McClellan says it’s a “true miracle” Robert McLeroy of Nucla was found alive Thursday on the bank of the San Miguel River by his adult grandson, Ethan Archer, of Fruita, who was in a kayak.

Montrose County spokeswoman Katie Yergensen says rescuers used ropes and pulleys to extract McLeroy, who was flown by helicopter to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, where he was listed in serious condition.

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the cause of Monday’s crash on Colorado 141.
