Demolition of the old Montezuma-Cortez High School started Wednesday with the auxiliary gym and locker room areas. The first phase of demolition should be completed by mid-June, according to school district officials. Some asbestos abatement must be completed before other areas of the building can be demolished. School officials are negotiating to sell the land to the city of Cortez for a park.
