I was going to just let this go until I read the following statement in Phillip Tillman’s letter headlined, “Mourning the loss of once-great Colorado (Herald, Jan. 14): “Constitutional rights in Colorado now mean nothing as the Second Amendment is being trampled on.”

The cumulative contribution of these two letters amounts to nothing more than additional histrionic and insipid ranting from gun nuts. As for the first letter, the writer failed to consider that, typically, mass shooters have no fear of losing their lives. In fact, they seem to count on it. It would seem that, if they are not shot dead by police, they shoot themselves.

As for the second letter, no Second Amendment rights have been trampled on in Colorado. The right to keep and bear arms does not implicate extended-capacity magazines for assault rifles. Nor does it have any relevance to universal background checks. You can keep and bear arms despite limitations on magazines. Further, you can keep and bear arms if you’re sane enough to be able to purchase them.

Frankly, I’m profoundly sick and tired of gun-nut nonsense.
