Former Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell will make an appearance from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday during the Durango Motor Expo on Main Avenue. Campbell will be signing copies of and sharing stories from Milemarkers and Memories: My Last Long Haul, which is a magazine-style volume of the journal he kept while transporting the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree from the White River National Forest near Meeker to Washington, D.C. Campbell, who still has a commercial driver’s license from his days as a long-haul trucker, drove a brand-new Mack truck specially outfitted by the factory in Allentown, Pa., for the six-day drive. The 51-page publication includes many of his personal recollections as well as tidbits about the towns and cities at which he stopped along the way.
