My husband and I have rented the same accessory dwelling unit in town for five years. We love living close to downtown, but we are not able or willing to saddle ourselves with $300,000 or more in debt for something recent history tells us may not hold its value.
Somehow, in spite of this, we are not trashy criminals or the blight of our neighborhood. We are educated professionals and new parents. We pay city taxes and spend a lot of money at local restaurants and stores.
The NIMBYs should give up this delusion that they are the only ones worthy of living in town.
