For the first time in 15 years, the Red Pride band competed this year in the Colorado Bandmasters Association State Competition. The band placed 20th among all Class 4A bands in Colorado on Friday in Fort Collins.
“Going to state means the band finally receives recognition for all their hard work and dedication,” said Katharine Reed, Durango High’s director of instrumental music and band teacher. Reed, student-teacher Cassie Robel, colorguard adviser Nancy Hoyt and percussion instructor Kyle Hollerbach have been working with the 54 students since the third week of August, preparing them for competitions.
