Plastic never, that’s right, never, goes away, but lingers in the biosphere indefinitely. Anyone who doesn’t believe this needs to watch the YouTube film “Message from the Gyre,” depicting albatross chicks who starved to death because their parents fed them plastic trash they’d gathered, mistaking it for food. I applaud the city of Durango for considering a ban or small fee on single-use plastic bags, and hope they’ll move on to beverage bottles next.
