Dustin Benzie, 29, of Bayfield takes his horse, Smooch, out for exercise Tuesday at the rodeo arena near downtown. “We’re just legging up the horses,” Benzie said. The arena, managed by the Pine River Arena Association, hosts a variety of events each year, such as cattle and ranch sorting clinics. In warm weather, it provides an accessible place to spend a few minutes of trotting and loping with the horses, said Benzie, who manages T Bar C Ranch in Bayfield. It’s the closest arena to the town. “It’s great to have this arena close by,” he said. (Shannon Mullane/Durango Herald)
