Durango Fire Protection District firefighters talk with the driver of an SUV before freeing her on Saturday after crashing into trees on the south side of U.S. Highway 160 west of Durango near Lightner Creek Road (County Road 207). The driver encountered an ice-covered road as a result of the shade from trees and cliff while driving in the westbound lane then losing control and crossing the eastbound lanes before crashing into the trees. The driver was examined by EMTs and released. Colorado Department of Transportation was notified of the conditions and treated the road. (Jerry McBride/Durango Herald)
