{"id":99886,"date":"2018-05-04T14:50:02","date_gmt":"2018-05-04T20:50:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/monster-truck-that-broke-world-record-stops-in-cortez\/"},"modified":"2018-05-04T14:50:02","modified_gmt":"2018-05-04T20:50:02","slug":"monster-truck-that-broke-world-record-stops-in-cortez","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/monster-truck-that-broke-world-record-stops-in-cortez\/","title":{"rendered":"Monster truck that broke world record stops in Cortez"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:135e138e-0793-4f61-b888-d796911d6de9 --><\/p>\n<p>Kids and adults scrambled up into the cab to get behind the wheel of the record-holding Raminator monster truck, on display Friday and Saturday at New Country Auto Center in Cortez.<\/p>\n<p>The Raminator broke the Guinness World Record for monster truck speed in 2014 by reaching 99.1 mph using a 2,000 horsepower, 565 cubic inch, V-8 supercharged Hemi engine, said promoter Jessi Ott, of Hall Brothers Racing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur record still stands, and if anyone breaks it, we will try to break it back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The truck is owned and was built by Tom and Mark Hall, who also own seven other monster trucks, four of which compete across the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sport is really evolving, and the technology has advanced a lot,\u201d Ott said. \u201cDrivers are true professional athletes who regularly train on practice courses and love to show off their skills at competitions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Custom shocks help make it happen, with 26 inches of travel in front and 30 inches in back.<\/p>\n<p>Ott used to compete in monster truck events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a lot of high-flying action \u2013 obstacle courses, doing doughnuts and of course running over cars,\u201d he said. \u201cThe best part is the adrenaline and the reaction from the crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said people who visited on Friday have been fascinated by the tires, which are 66 inches tall and 43 inches wide and weigh 900 pounds each. They also like to climb aboard.<\/p>\n<p>That is what several excited kids, and a few adults on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty cool,\u201d proclaimed Callan Cheever, age 4, who checked out the cab with his friend Connor Buff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe asked if he could drive it and run over something,\u201d said mom Julia Buff. \u201cIt\u2019s a fun event for the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kiss Country broadcast the event live, and there were vendors and plenty of new trucks and Jeeps to check out at the dealership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCortez is outdoor, four-by-four country, so we could not miss this,\u201d said DJ Fiddlesticks.<\/p>\n<p>Ott travels every weekend to different Ram dealerships around the country to show off the Raminator, valued at $150,000.
